 Nathaniel Clyne
From the E&S Wolves were this afternoon facing a race against the clock to sign Crystal Palace right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
The club agreed a deal for the pacy 18-year-old with Palace’s adminstrators who had already accepted a higher offer from another club.
When that fell through, they came back to Wolves, but the late timing of the deal meant the club weren’t hopeful of it going through before today’s 5pm deadline.
England Under-19 international Clyne, who was preparing for tomorrow’s FA Cup fourth round replay between the teams, wants more time to think about the move and so the deal may be completed too late.
Joint administrator Brendan Guilfoyle said: “Nathaniel Clyne was given permission to speak to Wolves after they agreed a fee for his services but he has refused to open talks.”
Wolves see the acquisition of Clyne as a long term project, rather than a player who would be thrust into Premier League action immediately.
