IRELAND striker Kevin Doyle has dismissed suggestions that he will quit Premier League strugglers Wolves in the summer.

There were fears that £6million man Doyle, Wolves' leading scorer with six Premier League goals this season, would walk away from Molineux at the end of the season even if the club avoid relegation.

Manager Mick McCarthy said that Doyle was good enough to play for any of the top four clubs in the Premier League and added: “If we go down, we have no chance of holding on to him.”

But Doyle insists he wants to stay loyal to the club and to McCarthy. “As far as I understand, I will be here - there's absolutely no reason why not,” said Doyle, hoping to end a fiveweek goal drought by scoring against relegation rivals Burnley tomorrow.

“The manager has said to me and a good few of us that if we stay up this season, there will be a lot of strengthening and adding to the squad in the summer and that can only be a bonus.

“That's what all the players want to hear. If we sign another striker in the summer, that's competition and hopefully that will push me and the others on again and make us try that bit harder to try to stay in the team.

“The aim is to stay in the Premier League with the facilities we have and everything behind us.”
